Five people were displaced and a young child was taken to hospital after a fire tore through a duplex in the northeast community of Livingston on Saturday afternoon.

The Calgary Fire Department said it responded to reports of a house fire in the 100 block of Calhoun Common N.E. at around 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

When firefighters arrived, they found a two-storey duplex with “heavy smoke and fire pushing from the rear of the building and through the roof.”

“Occupants of the home were evacuating and there was information that some occupants were unable to leave their homes,” CFD said in a release. “Fire was quickly spreading from the source home to an adjacent home to the east.”
