(KRON) — A cyclist was hit and killed by an SUV on Old Redwood Highway north of Santa Rosa Saturday.

The cyclist was stopped on the right-hand shoulder of the highway, south of Shiloh Road, when a Range Rover drifted into the shoulder and hit man, according to the California Highway Patrol.

“Emergency personnel arrived on scene, and the elderly male bicyclist was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he sadly passed away from his injuries,” CHP said.

The driver of the Range Rover remained at the scene of the crash. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash, CHP said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
