DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Over 150 veterans were honored on Sunday morning with a trip to Washington, D.C.
The flight took off at 6 a.m. from the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base with the 445th Airlift Wing.
There will be a Welcome Home Ceremony and Concert, which will start at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21. The arrival back is expected to be at approximately 8 p.m.
Honor Flight Dayton has worked with veterans for 20 years and takes them to visit memorials built in their honor. The 445th Airlift Wing has been at Wright-Patt for 30 years and has been committed to service and community.
Organizers said this is a long-overdue welcome home for Vietnam-era veterans. They said many of whom did not receive recognition or appreciation when they came home.
