GIDDINGS, Texas — The sheriff of Lee County was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Sunday morning.
Jail records show Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger, 38, was arrested in Giddings by the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was booked into the Lee County Jail and has since been released on bond.
According to DPS, Durrenberger was arrested during a traffic stop on South Madison Street at around 2:21 a.m.
"The Lee County Sheriff's Office remains fully operational and will continue to provide professional law enforcement protection and services to our citizens and guests," the sheriff said in a statement .
Durrenberger has been Lee County Sheriff since July 2023, and won reelection to the position in 2024.
