WATERVILLE -- The Ticonic Bridge in Waterville will be closing at the end of the month.

The Maine Department of Transportation began construction on the new bridge back in December of 2022.

The structure is located on Route 201 over the Kennebec River and connects the city of Waterville to the town of Winslow. The Maine DOT said there were portions of the bridge that were over 100-years-old and at the end of its useful life, which is why it needs to be replaced.

Next Monday, September 29 through November 1st, the Ticonic Bridge will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to seek an alternative route during that time.

Construction on the new bridge is scheduled to wrap up in 2027.
