Vancouver Island’s 19 Wing Comox Canadian Forces Base honoured the Canadians who fought in the Battle of Britain, defending its allies from Nazi invasion 85 years ago.
From July to October 1940, more than 100 Canadian pilots and roughly 300 Canadian ground crew fought with their allies to protect Great Britain.
At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, troops moved into formation outside the Comox Air Force Museum Heritage Air Park marking the the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain which occurred during the Second World War.
19 Wing Commander Col. Chris Shapka led the ceremony as the reviewing officer, accompanied by acting chief warrant officer Ghslain Parare.
Troops were positioned in three ranks, with members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets’ band, joined by the 888 Wing and 19 Wing bases.
