Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles looks on before a game against the New York Jets at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Sept. 21, 2025.

The New York Jets took a late lead in their Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers when Will McDonald returned a blocked Chase McLaughlin field goal for a touchdown with 1:49 left in regulation.

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles was candid about what was going through his head at that moment during his postgame news conference.

"Excuse my language, but you've got to f---ing be s---ing me," Bowles said, eliciting a chuckle from the reporters on hand. "Then after that, you see how much time [is] on the clock, and you calm down and you try and win the game."

The Buccaneers had been attempting to extend their 26-20 lead to nine points when McLaughlin's kick was blocked. A successful attempt would have made it a two-score game and exceedingly difficult for the Jets to make the comeback.

Instead, McDonald's big play completely flipped the script. It forced Tampa Bay to go from protecting the lead to playing from behind over the game's final two minutes.

The Buccaneers were successful in coming from behind for a third consecutive game. Baker Mayfield had completions of 28 and 20 yards to Emeka Egbuka and Sterling Shepard respectively to help set McLaughlin up for a game-winning, 36-yard kick, which he made.

Bowles praised his team for staying focused and being able to improve to 3-0 to start the season.

"It's hard to win in this league, period," Bowles said. "Us shooting ourselves in the foot doesn't help it much, but the resiliency they have to come back and win those games, you gotta stack them early while you iron out your kinks. We're stacking them early this year."

"We've been 2-0 the past three or four years and we haven't won the third game," he added. "So, that's a plus winning the third game."
