Jose Fermin drove in three runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.

The magic number for Brewers (95-61) to win their third straight National League Central title remained at one, pending the outcome of the game between the second-place Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

Ivan Herrera hit a two-run homer for the Cardinals (76-80), who took two of three games in the weekend series.

Cardinals starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore (8-12) allowed one run on five hits in five innings. He struck out six and walked one.

Matt Svanson pitched two scoreless innings for St. Louis. Ryan Fernandez handled the eighth and Riley O'Brien finished off the victory in the ninth.
