Arizona Cardinals running back Trey Benson (33) carries the ball against the San Francisco 49ers during the second half at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Sept. 21, 2025.

Most of the NFL's Week 3 Sunday action is in the books, with just the Giants vs. Chiefs "Sunday Night Football" clash remaining to be played.

Plenty of fantasy football managers will be closely eying those contests with their Week 3 matchups still to be decided.

Many others, who either know the results of their matchups or require injury replacements for some stars, will start looking ahead to next week. And there's no better way for fantasy football aficionados to do that than to get a jumpstart on waiver wire research.

Per usual, wide receiver remains a relatively deep position, with several young players seemingly starting to break out at the position. Meanwhile, a couple of running backs stand out as strong targets as they step into larger-volume roles as injury replacements.

Here's a look at the five players to target on the waiver wire ahead of fantasy football Week 4.

Week 4 fantasy football waiver wire targets

Trey Benson, RB, Cardinals (Rostered in 51% of Yahoo leagues)

James Conner suffered a nasty-looking ankle injury in the Cardinals' Week 3 16-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He was carted off the field and quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.

If Conner's absence is of the long-term variety, Benson will become the clear-cut top running back in Arizona's backfield rotation. That will give him the volume to be a potential RB1 or a high-end RB2.

Benson racked up 42 yards on 10 carries against the 49ers and is averaging 5.95 yards per carry for the season.

Tre Tucker, WR, Raiders (Rostered in 3% of Yahoo leagues)

Tucker had his coming-out party in the Raiders' 41-24 loss to the Commanders. He scored all three of Las Vegas' touchdowns while leading the team in targets (9), catches (8) and receiving yards (145).

Will this be sustainable for Tucker? Tucker may be behind Jakobi Meyers and Brock Bowers in the Raiders' pecking order but has still earned 20 targets across the first three weeks. If the 5-8 weapon continues to develop chemistry with Geno Smith, he should be a high-ceiling flex play thanks to his top-notch deep speed.

Elic Ayomanor, WR, Titans (Rostered in 21% of Yahoo leagues)

Ayomanor's receiving numbers won't necessarily jump off the page to fantasy managers. He has 10 catches for 107 yards through three weeks.

That said, the rookie wide-out is quickly developing a bond with No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward. The duo has connected for a touchdown in back-to-back weeks with Ayomanor serving as the team's No. 2 receiver across from Calvin Ridley.

Ayomanor has good size at 6-2, 206 pounds and should remain a red-zone threat throughout the season.

Luther Burden III, WR, Bears (Rostered in 11% of Yahoo leagues)

The Bears have D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze at receiver, but there's room for a third target to emerge as a threat in their pass-heavy offense. Burden appears ready to step into that role, as the second-round rookie racked up three catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Granted, the Cowboys have one of the NFL's weakest passing defenses, but Burden showed exactly the type of explosive threat he can be in Chicago's offense. The 21-year-old also had a 7-yard carry and should have plenty of space in which to operate as opposing defenses plan more to stop Moore and Odunze.

Burden should only improve as he gets more playing time, so feel free to grab him as a potential-packed flex option.

Chris Rodriguez Jr., RB, Commanders (Rostered in 5% of Yahoo leagues)

Jeremy McNichols had the biggest run of Washington's win over Las Vegas, a 60-yard touchdown, but Rodriguez led the team with 11 carries. The Commanders will likely continue to use a committee approach with Rodriguez, McNichols and Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt, but Rodriguez should be a big part of it.

Why? Rodriguez has a 5-11, 224-pound frame, so he profiles as the team's best between-the-tackles and should split goal-line work with Croskey-Merritt, who had a touchdown against the Raiders. That gives Rodriguez a solid volume floor and TD upside while playing in an explosive Washington offense.
