Follow live update for Giants-Chiefs here.
The New York Giants may be forced to battle the Kansas City Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football" without a kicker.
Giants kicker Graham Gano suffered a groin injury during pregame warmups. The veteran was ruled "questionable" for the contest just moments before it began, throwing into doubt his status for the remainder of the game.
Gano was the only kicker the Giants had dressed for their Week 3 game. If he is unable to kick, New York will either be forced to rely on an emergency kicker or go for it more frequently on fourth down in field goal range.
Here's what to know about Gano's injury.
What happened to Graham Gano?
Gano was injured during pregame warmups ahead of the Giants' Week 3 matchup with the Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football." He was deemed questionable to return to the game.
Graham Gano injury update
Gano was spotted heading to the locker room with a trainer during the national anthem, per The Athletic. He returned to the sideline during New York's first drive and attempted to warm up, kicking the ball into a net on the sidelines.
However, the Giants did not call upon Gano to attempt a 46-yard field goal on fourth-and-3 from the Chiefs' 28-yard line. They instead decided to go for it and saw Russell Wilson's pass get batted down at the line of scrimmage.
It isn't clear if the Giants' decision was related to Gano's availability or if Brian Daboll simply wanted to remain aggressive on the game's opening drive.
Do the Giants have a backup kicker?
The Giants do have kicker Jude McAtamney on the practice squad. However, he was not activated for Sunday's game and will be unavailable to play as a result.
As such, the Giants don't have a true, backup kicker available against the Chiefs.
Who is the Giants emergency kicker?
The Giants don't have an official emergency kicker on their roster, but punter Jamie Gillan was seen warming up on the sideline on the first drive along with Gano, according to the NBC broadcast.
If Gano is unavailable, the "Scottish Hammer" would likely be called upon to make short-distance kicks and extra points should the Giants want to attempt them Sunday night.
Gillan has attempted two career field goals, making one of them. That includes a 40-yard attempt with the Giants in 2023. Gillan also attempted one extra point in relief of Gano when the kicker was injured last season. He was unable to make it.
