MOREHEAD, Ky. (FOX 56) — City leaders in Morehead shared their condolences and heartbreak over the passing of Kennedi McWhorter, 13.

On the morning of Sept. 19, troopers with Kentucky State Police said the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) performed a welfare check at 10:15 a.m. at a home on South Spring Street in Morehead, where McWhorter and her mother, 37-year-old Kayla Blake, were found dead at their home on South Spring Street.

On Sunday, Morehead City Government officials said McWhorter had been a member of the 2024 11-and-under state champion softball team, the first state championship for our softball program.
