An investigation is underway near Fort Lauderdale on Sunday after a Broward Sheriff's Office deputy was forced to fire their weapon, killing one person, officials said.

According to BSO, there were reports of a possible disturbance involving a firearm in the 2500 block of Northwest Ninth Court at around 5:35 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they met with a person, and the deputy fired their weapon, BSO said.

The person who was shot was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Their identity was not released.

No other injuries were reported.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is expected to take over the investigation, which is standard whenever there is a police-involved shooting.
