ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Several faith groups in Athens rallied together against the mass deportation of immigrants.
This comes as Georgia has seen a 367% increase in ICE arrests.
More than 100 people marched from Prince Avenue to the U.S. Post Office in downtown Athens on Sunday and held signs that read “Protect Immigrant Rights” and “Imagine A Kinder World.”
The Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition (ISC) and the Interfaith Clergy Partnership of Greater Athens (ICPGA) organized the rally. They said it was not a political event but an expression of their faith.
“Doing nothing is not just isolating, but it invites them to get numb to the idea of violating their faith and basic compassion for other human beings,” said Rev. Dr. Pippin Whitaker, minister of the Unitarian Universalist
