In field hockey, the penalty corner is a prime chance to score. But Sunday, Michigan failed to convert enough of them to keep its win streak alive.
Despite outshooting James Madison 29-10 and earning 15 penalty corners to the Dukes’ three, the Wolverines couldn’t capitalize when it mattered most, losing 3-1.
Coming off a conference victory against Michigan State Friday, Michigan had a lot to focus on, such as finishing on all shots taken and shutting down the James Madison defense.
“The work is done during the week … but obviously we need to do more,” Wolverines coach Kristi Gannon Fisher said. “Credit to JMU, (they) ran a really good defensive corner unit … and broke up a lot of the plays we were trying to execute on.”
Michigan’s lone goal by sophomore back Eva Bernardy came off a fou
