One of Australia's peak medical bodies has labelled an anticipated announcement by the Trump administration linking autism with paracetamol as "dangerous".

US President Donald Trump is expected to link pregnant women's use of the popular medicine, known as Tylenol in the United States, to a risk of autism, according to Washington Post reports .

An effort to explore how the drug leucovorin could potentially treat the condition may also be announced.

At a memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 21, Mr Trump boasted the announcement on September 22 could be the "biggest" medically in the history of the country.

"I think we found an answer to autism," he said. "How about that? Autism."
