The American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri has filed a lawsuit claiming Missouri’s newly-passed congressional map contains a small but detrimental error.

The suit says hundreds of voters in the Kansas City area would be placed in both the 4th and 5th congressional districts. This would unconstitutionally give them two congressmen and could sink the map, which already faces a number of legal challenges. State Sen. Brian Williams, D-St. Louis, told KMOX Radio he doesn’t know how Republicans will try to fix this.

“This is an unprecedented situation, so I’m not sure what that process will be,” he said.

Specifically, the lawsuit says a section of the map labeled “Voting Tabulation District KC 811” places 875 voters in both the 4th and 5th congressional districts.
