Nigel Farage has outlined Reform UK's stance on immigration, proposing to scrap the current system that allows migrants to seek permanent residency after five years and instead introduce a more stringent visa process.
The leader of Reform UK is advocating for the elimination of indefinite leave to remain (ILR), which currently permits migrants to apply after a five-year period, and force them to renew their visa every five years.
Under Farage's plan, migrants would need to meet higher criteria, including a higher salary threshold and a better standard of English.
They would have to have lived in the UK for seven years, up from five, and there would be tighter restrictions on bringing spouses and children to the UK.
