Almost 4.6 million people across the UK have a diabetes diagnosis, but more than a million could be living with the condition without realising it. These statistics come from Diabetes UK, which further explains that around 90% of those with diabetes have type 2, which is largely preventable.
Type 2 diabetes may lead to severe health complications, including heart disease or stroke. Additionally, elevated blood sugar levels, which can trigger diabetes, may cause lasting harm to various parts of the body including the eyes, nerves, kidneys and blood vessels when present over extended periods.
According to the NHS , not everyone gets symptoms with type 2 diabetes, but for those who do these often include losing weight without trying to
