A Morganton woman is facing five years in federal prison after she pleaded guilty Friday to workers’ compensation fraud.
Sandra “Sandy” Cannon Throneburg, 74, of Morganton, pleaded guilty to workers’ compensation fraud on Friday, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina Russ Ferguson announced in a press release.
Ferguson said Throneburg lied about her ability to return to work to keep getting workers' compensation payments.
“Most postal employees who collect workers’ compensation benefits have legitimate claims. A small percentage, however, abuse the system and cost the Postal Service millions of dollars in fraudulent claims and enforcement costs.
