One person is dead after a single vehicle collision in East Louisville, according to a news release from Louisville Metro Police.

LMPD responded to a report of a single vehicle collision near the intersection of Shelbyville Road and Bircham Road around 12:18 a.m. Sept. 22, spokesperson Dwight Mitchell said.

According to the news release, LMPD’s preliminary investigation indicates a man was traveling eastbound on Shelbyville Road when he lost control of the car, causing the vehicle to go off the road and strike a utility pole and trees.

The driver had fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Mitchell said. LMPD’s Traffic Unit is leading the investigation.
