Mayor Monroe Nichols plans to begin a community conversation about how the city can best ensure that it has adequate funding to address Tulsa’s myriad challenges, he said Friday.

He’ll bring with him two reports: a comparative analysis of municipal sales tax rates in the area, and a survey measuring potential voters’ thoughts about increasing Tulsa’s sales tax rate and issuing revenue bonds to raise those dollars.

What he’s not ready to discuss is whether he plans to ask city councilors to call an election to vote on those funding options.

“From our perspective, I think the big thing is now we’re going to lean back into the community and say, ‘OK, let’s talk deeply about this deal,’ because we’ve got really good information here,” Nichols said.
