A woman arrested on Saturday morning for allegedly shooting a person in Miami Gardens is claiming she fired in self-defense.

The shooting happened in the 3000 block of Northwest 184th Street at around 9:49 a.m., police said.

Jahniya Imani Meda, 25, allegedly shot at the victim who had gone to Meda's house "with the intent to engage in a physical altercation."

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said Meda admitted to the shooting, and she was charged with attempted murder.

On Sunday, prosecutors said that the victim was trying to get into Meda's home. Her defense team argued that she exercised her right to defense.

The judge denied bond and ordered Meda to have no contact with the victim.
