A couple was attacked by a group of men who made homophobic statements toward them in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston earlier this month, according to a police report.

The two victims were walking along River Street on Sept. 13 to a convenience store when a group of men began making the homophobic comments, according to the report. This led to a verbal confrontation between the couple and the group, with the men becoming combative toward the victims, the report said.

A physical altercation erupted, with the group attacking the victims, police said. One of the victims was allegedly hit in the head with a baseball bat. Police found one of the victims lying in the parking lot bleeding from the back of his head.
