Costo is recalling some ahi tuna sold under Kirkland Brand name in connection to contain an outbreak strain of listeria.

Thousands of pounds of tuna sold at Costco in over 30 states under the Kirkland Signature brand name are being recalled in connection to an outbreak strain of listeria monocytogenes, which could lead to illness or death.

Western United Fish Company dba Annasea Foods Group is recalling nearly 3,315 pounds of Kirkland Signature Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke, sold in Costco's deli section, with the Food and Drug Administration's knowledge over the weekend.

Some of the ahi tuna may contain an outbreak strain of listeria monocytogenes contamination, which can cause listeriosis, or listeria poisoning.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after the agency was notified by a green onion supplier of a listeria positive test result in the green onions used in Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke.

"We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause," the agency wrote in its Saturday, Sept. 20 report.
