Tyquan Thornton is emerging as a trusted target for Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs wide receiver had a team-high 71 yards on five carries and added a touchdown in Kansas City’s 22-9 win over the New York Giants on “Sunday Night Football.”

“I knew he was going to be a good football player, but he’s even exceeding my expectations,” Mahomes told reporters after the game . “He’s stepping up whenever the opportunity has been provided for him."

Thornton has taken on a bigger role for the Chiefs in wake of Rashee Rice’s six-game suspension and Xavier Worthy’s dislocated shoulder he suffered in Week 1.
