Sky Studios will attract £2B ($2.7B) worth of production investment to the UK over the next five years, it has said, after being given the go-ahead for a huge expansion of its Elstree site.

The long-gestating expansion, which was denied last year over environmental concerns, will see the Wicked and Jurassic World studio grow by 10 stages. Dubbed Sky Studios Elstree North, the plans would take the total number of sound stages onsite to 22, set over 65 acres, with 470,000 sq ft of stage space for filming.

Sky said the expansion will “unlock development that is expected to create over 2,000 jobs and attract £2bn of production investment to the UK within the first five years of operation.”
