A-road drivers and motorists face a lower speed limit - with the threshold reduced by 20mph. The A1 will introduce a new 50mph speed limit for motorists, road users and drivers to follow for the foreseeable future.

National Highways is making improvements to the A1 to cut road traffic collisions. The highways and motorways agency aims to reduce the number of people harmed on the roads.

The speed limit will be reduced from 70mph to 50mph on a section of the A1 between Borehamwood and South Mimms, National Highways has confirmed. The new speed limits are expected to be in place by Friday 26 September.
