EVANSVILLE – The person charged with shooting and injuring an Evansville police officer is an 18-year-old who now faces two counts of attempted murder.

A warrant for the arrest of Jailani Darealis Chew was filed in Vanderburgh Circuit Court on Sunday. According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case, Chew shot an EPD officer and fired at several others while attempting to flee a stolen vehicle outside the Rally's on East Virginia Street just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

The injured officer was identified in the affidavit, but EPD hasn't publicly released his name. He sustained "debilitating injuries during the shooting," the affidavit states.
