A Lanarkshire girl heartbreakingly asked her mum "will dad be alive for my birthday" after the family were given the dreaded news no one wants to hear.

Following a gruelling five-month long battle with bowel cancer, there is nothing more doctors could do for 40-year-old dad Grant Hardie, who is currently receiving treatment at Wishaw General Hospital to keep the cancer at bay. The Motherwell father will now be placed into palliative care.

His wife Susan, 43, and daughter Autumn, aged nine, are utterly devastated over the news and are making every day count with the North Lanarkshire council worker, who had to leave his job due to the crippling illness.
