DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Attorney General’s Office says the fatal shooting of Steven Funk by a Knoxville Police Department sergeant on August 21 was legally justified. The conclusion followed an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. The AG's report says on the night of August 21, Sergeant Joseph Weppler and Officer Matthew Eagleton responded to a 911 call from Andrea Funk, who said that her husband had crashed his car into their house, rupturing a gas line. Law enforcement says Steven Funk forced his way inside and began strangling Andrea, despite there being a no-contact order between them.
