THE Minnesota Vikings have issued an injury update as JJ McCarthy looks to make his return.

McCarthy , 22, has been out of action with an ankle injury suffered during the Vikings ' 22-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week.

The quarterback suffered a high right ankle sprain during their home defeat.

He missed yesterday's win against the Cincinnati Bengals as news breaks about his recovery.

It was reported during the broadcast of the Vikings' game against the Bengals that McCarthy is recovering on schedule.

An initial prognosis suggested that McCarthy would miss four weeks of action.
