Sault Ste. Marie police say the city’s member of provincial parliament has been arrested, but they are not yet saying why.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says Chris Scott is no longer a part of the Progressive Conservative caucus, but is being similarly tight-lipped on the reasons.

Ford says he doesn’t want to interfere in a police investigation.

Sault Ste. Marie police say in a statement that it is not releasing any further details on “the incident or the charges” in order to “protect the privacy of the victim(s).”

They say Scott was arrested on Sunday by Toronto officers, but police in that city have also not yet divulged the reasons.

Calls to Scott’s constituency office went unanswered.

Scott was elected just seven months ago in the February snap election.
