Capitol Police are investigating the homicide of a 17-year-old in North Jackson, according to Mississippi Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Bailey Martin.

Martin issued a press release Saturday, Sept. 20, stating the homicide occurred around 9:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, in the area of Sunnyvale Drive and Sandalwood Place.

Martin said the victim was a male but did not release his identity.

Interim Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the victim to the Clarion Ledger as "Humaid Ghasan Omar Salem, 17." Howard said Salem died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Clarion Ledger reached out Monday morning, Sept. 22, to Martin for any additional updates on this case and was told that "there are no updates that we can provide at this time."
