BEAUMONT, Texas — The Groves assistant fire chief is on administrative leave after being arrested over the weekend on a DWI charge.

Larry Paul Washburn, 54, assistant fire chief for the City of Groves Fire Department, was arrested Sunday on a driving under the influence charge by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Washburn was pulled over at Farm-to-Market Road 365 near the 752-mile marker at around 9 p.m. according to DPS.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a Ford F-250 and observed that the Washburn displayed signs of intoxication and was subsequently placed under arrest and taken to the Jefferson County jail.

Washburn posted $5,000 bond following his Sept. 21, 2025, arrest.

Washburn has been placed on administrative leave with pay
