MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —

An Oklahoma student got a very special and emotional surprise on his birthday while at school on Friday.

Kyslan Washington was honored as the first-grade Student of the Month at Mid Del's Cleveland Bailey Elementary School. The principal announced Kyslan as Student of the Month and was about to give him a certificate but said she had left it in her desk.

So, she got a little help from an amazing surprise guest: Kyslan's mother.

Army Private Serra Ce Watts has been away for more than a year, training in South Carolina and Missouri for basic combat training. She walked through the gymnasium's door, holding Kyslan's Student of the Month certificate.
