SHAWANO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - Health authorities reported Monday that a wild bat recently tested positive for rabies in Shawano County.
In a public alert sent out Monday, the Shawano-Menominee Counties Health Department said the bat was found in the Town of Green Valley following an encounter with a family pet. No other details were released.
The last report of a rabid animal in Shawano County was also a wild bat in 2023, the health department said.
The health department is reminding the public to vaccinate your pet against rabies.
The public is advised to ensure all pet dogs, cats, ferrets, and livestock are vaccinated against rabies, and to stay away from all wild animals, especially those acting abnormally.
