North Allegheny grad Ayden Owens-Delerme just didn’t want to be known as a Day 1 guy.

The decathlete representing Puerto Rico gave it his all, finishing as the silver medalist at the World Athletic Championships this past weekend.

“I was trying to win the 1,500 and sweep the running events,” Owens-Delerme told the press Sunday from Tokyo. “The good thing is my Day 2 was so much better. Usually, I’m a Day 1 guy. But I want to change the narrative and I had a Day 2 PR. I was really proud.”

The 2024 Paris Olympian was sitting in the third place this past weekend in Japan after the first five events of the grueling two-day competition. He used wins in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes to vault himself into medal competition on Day 1. And Day 2 started with another win in the 110-meter hurd
