President Donald Trump is set to make an announcement about autism research at 4 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 22, accompanied by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Dr. Mehmet Oz, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

"I think we found an answer to autism," Trump told a memorial rally for Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona, on Sept. 21.

Officials are expected to claim that using Tylenol during pregnancy could contribute to the development of autism in children, according to Politico and The Washington Post, which cited anonymous sources. Medical guidelines say acetaminophen, the generic form of Tylenol, is safe to use. Acetaminophen is commonly used by pregnant women, who are already advised by the Food and Drug Administration not to use ibuprofen after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

The Trump administration, however, has made repeated claims about its plans to find the "cause" for autism, despite decades of medical and scientific consensus indicating that there is no singular source, including medication, that can be attributed to the condition, and that it is likely the result of multiple contributing factors, including genetics. Kennedy has argued, without evidence, that the country has an "autism epidemic" fueled by "environmental toxins."

Trump and his advisers are also expected to discuss a potential treatment for autism, the drug leucovorin, the news organizations reported.
