LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A former southern Indiana police officer was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.

Todd Wilson, 52, of Charlestown, Indiana, pleaded guilty to making a false statement while purchasing a gun, the United States Attorney's Office of the Southern District of Indiana said.

Wilson served as the Jeffersonville Police Department's evidence custodian, court documents show.

Officials said he abused his position by lying while purchasing nine guns on eight separate occasions from a federally licensed firearms dealer in Jeffersonville from 2020 to 2021.

ATF regulations allow officers to buy firearms without completing a form typically required at purchase, but to do so, officers must submit a certification on an agency letterhead that is signed by an authorized official sayi
