On Wednesday, September 17, at 12:20 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle with a stolen license plate near 10th Avenue East and East Boston Street.

The driver fled through residential streets before officers lost visual contact. A short time later, police located the vehicle stopped in traffic on Eastlake Avenue East near the University Bridge, which was lowering.

As officers moved in to conduct a high-risk stop, the driver veered into oncoming traffic, broke through a safety gate, and accelerated onto the partially raised bridge. The vehicle jumped the gap and became airborne. The car landed on the other side of the bridge and continued northbound.

Officers later recovered the unoccupied car near Pasadena Place East. The vehicle suffered severe damage from the incident.
