The Pirates are selecting the contract of top-100 prospect Hunter Barco from Triple-A Indianapolis, a source tells the Post-Gazette. Barco, the Pirates’ No. 4 prospect and No. 83 in baseball, per MLB Pipeline, will be active for the Pirates in Cincinnati.

A corresponding move has not been announced. If Barco appears, he’ll make his major league debut.

Barco, a 24-year-old left-hander, is 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA in Double-A and Triple-A this year. He started his season with six consecutive scoreless starts at Double-A Altoona, spanning 25 ⅔ innings and earning a May 6 promotion to Triple-A.

He’s primarily a starting pitcher, though four of his last five appearances have been out of the Indianapolis bullpen. He has a bit of an injury history, undergoing Tommy John surgery while playing at Flo
