Syracuse, N.Y. - A Syracuse man was arrested this weekend after police say he fired a gun in the air during a dispute with a neighbor over a dog.
Syracuse police responded at about 9:52 p.m. Sunday to a ShotSpotter report of gunshots in the Washington Square neighborhood, according to Sgt. Tom Blake, a spokesperson for the Syracuse Police Department.
Blake said the man fired off at least one shot in the area. He declined to identify the type of gun.
John Akins, 65, of Syracuse was arrested at the scene and charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
Akins cooperated with police and was taken into custody, Blake said. Firearms were recovered from the home.
Akins is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center awaiting arraignment.
