A restaurant company known for serving Mexican cuisine across multiple states since 1989 has filed for bankruptcy, according to court documents filed this month.
Abuelo's International, also known as Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant, is a company born in Amarillo, Texas, with 16 locations across seven states. On Sept. 2, Abuelo's International filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The filing came five days before Abuelo's Founders Day celebration on Sept. 7.
"We can confirm that the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy," Abuelo's said in an emailed company statement. "This decision is a part of a strategic reconstructing process to strengthen our long-term financial position."
