A TESLA driver who overtook 15 cars at 180 km/h along the New England Highway "just wanted to get home", a court has heard.

Connor Williams Gunn, 27, failed to appear in Armidale Local Court on Monday, September 22.

Gunn was charged with driving recklessly in a dangerous manner and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.

No pleas were entered to either charge and Gunn was not represented in court.

Magistrate Mark Richardson read from a statement tendered by police.

Officers claimed Gunn was travelling north along the New England Highway in his Tesla car, Mr Richardson said.

"Police observed the vehicle overtaking 10 to 15 vehicles at speed, the car was doing up to 180km/h in a 100km/h zone," Mr Richardson said.
