ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Monday that the state has opened a “Combat Violent Extremism” portal where Floridians can report acts or threats of political violence.

Speaking at Valencia College in Orlando, Uthmeier said it is important to “protect a free market of ideas and a place for debate and discourse” in the wake of political activist Charlie Kirk’s murder on Sept. 10 at a Turning Point USA event on the campus of Utah Valley University.

While reiterating that this is not an attempt to silence individuals, Uthmeier said all violent threats reported will be subject to investigation, saying, “There is a big difference between a call for violence that is not protected by the First Amendment.”
