The Ontario Provincial Police conducted a distractive driving blitz along Highway 401 between Quinte West and Kingston on Sept. 18, 2025. In just one day, officers charged a total of 30 people for using their cellphones while driving.

According to police, the fine for first offence drivers is $615 along with three demerit points and a three-day licence suspension. A second conviction includes a fine of $615, six demerit points and a seven-day licence suspension.

“Please remember, your focus on the road is your best safety feature. Be alert, keep your hands on the wheel and your phone mounted,” the OPP said on X .

Ontario’s distracted driving laws apply to the use of hand-held communication/entertainment devices and certain display screens.
