U.S. Sen. Todd Young emphasized the need to "cherish and protect free speech," following the threats Communications Commission Chair Brendan Carr made before the cancellation of comedian Jimmy Kimmel's show.
On X on Sept. 22, Young commended fellow Republican Sen. Ted Cruz for defending free speech and criticizing Carr, a rare rebuke from the Texas senator of a Trump official.
Cruz expressed concern on his podcast last week that Carr's pressure on networks could one day be used to silence conservative voices .
“I think it is unbelievably dangerous for government to put itself in the position of saying 'We’re going to decide what speech we like and what we don’t, and we’re going to threaten to take you off air if we don’t like what you’re saying,'” Cruz said.
