Some portable electronic charging devices have been recalled because the lithium-ion battery inside can overheat, catch fire and explode.
Almost half a million Anker Power Banks with the model numbers A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689 are recalled. They are used to charge smartphones, laptop computers and tablets.
“The firm has received 33 reports of fire and explosion incidents. Four minor burn injuries and one report of substantial property damage have been reported,” according to a news release from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The power banks were sold at Best Buy and Target stores nationwide as well as online at Amazon, AliExpress, eBay, Walmart and TikTok from August 2023 through June 2025 for between $30 and $50.
