STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— Two standout cross country performances from borough athletes this past weekend came from Monsignor Farrell’s Edwin Alleva, who posted his second straight runner-up finish at the Xavier Invitational at Ocean Breeze Park, and St. Joseph by-the-Sea senior Adam Vitale, who placed fourth at the Bob Pratt Invitational on Long Island’s notoriously difficult Sunken Meadow course.
Alleva, coming off a runner-up finish at the Regis Invitational , kept his strong start rolling Saturday with a 15:32.21 5K—just six seconds behind winner Sam Ryland of Xavier.
“Edwin ran a gritty race,” Farrell head coach John Bentivegna said.
