TYE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A Midland man who led Tye police on a chase, reaching speeds of up to 110 miles an hour, has been sentenced to prison in Taylor County.
Roberto G. Urias, who police say is a known criminal gang member, led police on a chase through Tye, Merkel and Abilene in February of 2023. He was arrested at an Abilene motel on East Overland Trail by the Abilene Police Department's Surveillance, Apprehension and Tactics Team a month after the chase.
Urias was scheduled for trial on September 22, 2025, but pleaded out of court. He was sentenced to 8 years in prison on an evading arrest charge. Another evading charge and a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant were waived.
